Article Title:Consumption of non- steroidal analgesics in dance teachers

Abstract:
BackgroundPain in the musculoskeletal system is afrequent accompanying symptom in dance teachers (DT). It cannot be excluded that risky behavior is important in order to compensate for these negative stress consequences.AimThe aim of this study was to analyze the intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) with respect to gender and variables, such as school graduation level, financial income, consumption of other substances (e.g. nicotine, alcohol) as well as injury prevalence.Material and methodsA total of 236 (male: n=53, female: n=183) professional DTs participated in the online questionnaire-based cross-sectional study.ResultsThe lifetime prevalence for NSAID was 58.5% (male) and 48.6% (female), respectively. Of the DTs 19.1% regularly took NSAID more frequently (male: 7.7%, female: 21.9%, p=0.025). The daily intake was low. Significant gender differences were found only for the monthly intake. Significant correlations between NSAID intake and the abovenamed variables could only be sporadically observed and were weakly expressed.DiscussionThe DTs took less NSAID compared to professional dancers and the normal population. Due to the importance of the human body, the consumption of these substances should be reduced to aminimum or completely dispensed with. In connection with the role model function and the influence on students, there is an increased demand for expanding the knowledge on NSAID of DTs and students through preventive measures.
