Article Title:A sociology of attachments - From a sociology of culture to a pragmatics of the amateur

Abstract:
By focussing on music lovers' practices, this paper aims at providing a verbal account of musical taste as an accomplishment, a situated activity, with its tricks and bricolages, far from any public space of self-justification but cautious to its own felicity. Taste is a problematic mode of attachment to the world. Based on interviews and observations with music lovers, these analyses try and lead sociology of culture away from a now hegemonic conception, which only understands taste as a gratuitous social game ignoring of its own meaning. On the contrary, this approach attempts to give it back its own space as a practice.
