Article Title:The social uses of the walkman in urban daily everyday life - Or the musical era as element of transformation of social space
Abstract:
Nowadays, it is necessary to enlighten the consequences due to the technical innovations, regarding the links maintained with music. The effects from these innovations combine to totally change the relations between the auditor and the music. It is then in this context that the musical spaces evolve, change, are being redefined. With the arrival of the walk-man, music has become nomad, enabling it to free itself from the space-time of its production. However by moving on to this common musical practice, it is not possible anymore to understand the relations to the music related to an already set up, located and definable social group. One has then to try to apprehend and analyse the new musical life styles, growing around a common object. One will then show, in this article, what are the social uses of the walk-man.
