Article Title：Stuttering in history and culture

Abstract：
The phenomenon of stuttering from Biblical times is covered from a historical and cultural point of view. Theories of its origin and the methods by which it was treated in former times including the surgical procedures of the 18th and 19th century are examined. Since the Renaissance, examples of stutterers in the performing arts have been found. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ireland Ltd. All rights reserved.
