Article Title:Cultural markers in Brazilian translation
Abstract:
This article provides an analysis of culturally-marked referential terms in three passages from Brazilian literary works and their translation into French, Italian, Norwegian, and English. This is done in accordance with two theoretical and descriptive matrixes: the Theory of Enunciative Operations (Culioli 2000) and the Translation Strategies Model (Aubert 1997). Despite the lexical, grammatical, and semantic differences between the source texts and the translations, as well as the different meanings they have or potential effects on readers in the target languages, the analysis seems to confirm the existence of equivalence-regulating mechanisms that render translation possible.
